Chon Buri Buffalo Races
(Oct 2007 (annual))
The water buffalo plays a crucial role in a Thai farmer's
life, but in this annual event in Chon Buri they are
put to a very different use from ploughing fields. A
number of races and contests pit buffalo against each
other, and even against men.
There are many other contests to distract the crowds
- alongside the races there is a buffalo fancy dress
contest, a healthy buffalo contest and the Miss Farmer
Pageant. If you can make it, this promises to be one
of the stranger events you could chance upon...
